It was a very successful outing to the Isle of Arran yesterday for Carradale AFC and supporters.

We travelled across by coach and ferry to Lochranza for the 12:30 kick-off against Arran side Northend Thistle AFC.

Initially a close match, Carradale steadily forged ahead in the scoring and finished the first half with 5 goals to 2. By the end of the game they had soundly beaten Northend Thistle with 14 goals to 3. Photos of the match can be found in the Football section of the Gallery.

It was an interesting match for any number of reasons. The referee, a last minute replacement, didn't have his whistle with him and as a result the match was marshalled with the aid of a child's kazoo. Quite surreal at times.

There was some very good football being played by both teams, including an incredible goal from Alistair McMillan which is certain to be a contender for 'Goal of the Year', and at one point the pitch was invaded by one of Arran's wandering sheep.

The cool weather was kept at bay (for the supporters at least!) by pre-match and half-time visits to the Lochranza Distillery whose staff were both welcoming and tolerant of us, especially the singing. If you're ever on Arran then I certainly recommend you pay them a visit.

Post-match hospitality was provided at the Lochranza Hotel where soup and sandwiches helped restore both players and supporters.

Finally it was time to go and our coach arrived at the ferry just in time - the ramp was already being raised - but the CalMac crew got us safely back across the Kilbrannan Sound to Cloanaig on what was the very last sailing of the year.
