It was a night of gales and wild weather but strangely enough today is bright and very mild, with the forecast for the Duck Race this weekend being good. This years race and BBQ will be held on Saturday, 23 September 2006 at 1pm on the river at Waterfoot. There are prizes for the first ten ducks past the finish line, plus a prize for the best named duck. BBQ from 1pm - Coffee, teas, and soft drinks also available. The Duck Race is always a great afternoon's fun, and usually very well attended by both residents and visitors alike. Proceeds go towards church funds.
The Campbeltown Courier and Oban Times newspapers both report a sighting of the Kintyre Cat on Carradale golf course, together with a very convincing photograph.
The photo, of course, is a fake but I'm firmly of the opinion that the Kintyre Cat is genuine and probably a Panther. Kintyre, with its thousands of acres of forest and countless deer, would provide an ideal habitat for such a beast which being a shy and reclusive animal would keep well away from humans, but just occasionally might be caught in the headlights of a passing car or surprised along a quiet forestry track. |
