Friday night's Chinese Evening at The Ashbank Hotel was, by all accounts, a great success. Unable to attend ourselves, our roving gastronomic correspondent sent in a comprehensive post-repast report, complete with photos to set the tastebuds a-tingling. He reports: 'First came prawn crackers, then a selection of spring rolls, prawns in filou pastry and prawn toast, of which there was more than enough for our party of five, including the dips. Mains were a choice of sweet and sour chicken or beef in black bean sauce, both served with either boiled rice or noodles. Most of us had noodles. Sweets were a choice between banana fritters with ice cream or ice cream with lychees. I went for the lychees 'cos I've never had 'em before. The banana goers all agreed they had just eaten food of the gods. Finally, coffee or green tea with mint chocolates and fortune cookies finished off the meal.' |
