12-04-10 Sandra McKinnon
1946-2010. A tribute to Sandra, elder sister of Eila,Isobel and the late Ian.

Sandra (Alexandria) McAffer the eldest daughter of the late Archie and Jenny McAffer and beloved wife of Alex McKinnon formely Auchnasavil Farm by Carradale sadly passed away peacefully at Campbeltown Hospital yesterday (Monday 12th April) with husband Alex by her side.

Alex and Sandra just a couple of years back had settled down to enjoy their retirement after selling up the family farm and building a new home close by.A trip abroad to visit there eldest daughter Catriona,Ian and there young family and also son Sandy now settled with a partner was a highlight to them both. The other two girls Christine and Mairi with there husbands and now Mairi with baby Erin would visit them both in their new home.

Life can be and has been cruel to many of us so back in October when Sandra was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus that was a blow to all of us but as Sandra said when we visited her one day after she got home from her first course of treatment, ach, just have to take it as it comes or some thing like that shrugging her shoulders. She said she would love to have a plate of mince and tatties (Alex's home grown I presume) but due to her condition that was out.

Unfortunately, shortly after she suffered a stroke and further cancer treatment was no longer possible. Sandra faced her illness with courage, diginity and grace.

She liked sitting in her wheelchair at the window with the view of the glen, watching the newborn lambs and sometimes would sit and ponder over her magazines looking at the pictures. We looked forward to getting her out and about with the warmer weather coming but that was not to be the case as a week past she took some bad seizures and was rushed back into hospital were she eventually passed away. She lived life to the full and with all she went through the last 7 months it was very heartbreaking. She will be missed by all,her family and friends here and abroad.

Funeral service in Saddell and Carradale Parish Church on Saturday 17th April 2010 at 1.00pm. All Welcome.
