We were treated to a fantastic view of the Royal Navy's new destroyer, Daring (D32), yesterday afternoon as she passed down the Kilbrannan Sound. Currently undergoing her final sea trials before being handed over to the Navy next year, Daring has mainly been keeping to the Clyde and North Channel areas. Anyone visiting the Braehead shopping centre in Glasgow can hardly have missed her, and her sister ships Dauntless (D33), Diamond (D34), Dragon (D35), and Defender (D36) taking shape across the river at the BAE Systems shipyard. The ships don't officially get their HMS prefix until handed over to the Navy. Dragon is due for launch at the end of November. A superb website for ships on the Clyde is the Upper Clyde Shipping website, and don't forget the ShipAIS website where there is also a forum for discussing shipping and sharing your photos. |
