03-09-10 Spitfire Flypast Today
A replica of a Supermarine Spitfire owned and flown by a friend of Colin Burgess of CARRADALE BAY CARAVAN PARK.
Due over today Friday, mid/late morning weather permitting and flown by owner (click on name) Iain Hutchison.
The Supermarine Aircraft mk26 is:
Two seater
All aluminium
80% scale replica, based on the mk V.
Built in Australia initially as the 75% scale single seat mk25 in 1995.
With a wing span of 27' 8" (8.43m) it is a similar size to a Cessna or any other light aircraft.
It comes as a kit, with everything supplied other than engine, propeller instruments and paint.
It flies in the amateur build category, which requires that at least 51% of the work is completed on an amateur basis.
My aircraft VH-IJH (pictured) is fitted with a Franklin six cylinder horizontally opposed air cooled aviation engine 220 hp.
Top speed 200 mph (175 kts, 300 kmh) Basic empty weight of 1254lbs (561 kg) Useful load of 672 lbs (300 kg)
