1946-2011.....Funeral Service on Friday 8th July at 1pm Saddell & Carradale Church

Carradale has lost another character when Duncan passed away in the early hours this morning. He was just recovering from a heart attack couple of weeks back when he took another at his home today.DD or the wee fitter as he was called,I personally will remember him for all he did for me,my taxi service to Carradale when he worked as a mechanic back in the early seventy's,a lodging for the night when he and Catherine stayed at Torrisdale and as a good friend over the years despite beating me in the Glen Bar darts final (1975?) see pic.

Duncan was well known by many,as mentioned he served as a mechanic in Campbeltown with Bobby Martin for many years and like myself left the motor trade jobs in the town to go to sea as a fisherman. Both of us continued to do car repairs over the years ( bit of competition never hurt anyone) only thing is he left more bolts below the cars than me :).Duncan left the fishing and returned to blackening his hands again working as a mechanic at Ardrishaig for a few years, and then back to Campbeltown again.Through wear and tear of the joints the wee fitter hung up the tools and semi retired lately after getting a new hip joint.Sadly his official retirement (65 this year) was not too be and he shall be missed by all and especially his family Catherine,Diarmid,Alasdair,Ian,Rhona and the grandchildren.

Robert Hutchison.Hi Johnny, sad to hear that wee Duncan has passed away, always enjoyed a couple of pints in the Cruban bar with him when i was visiting..

Catriona and Malcolm Trott. We are so sorry to hear about Duncan. We are away in Plymouth at the moment, bringing our boat up to Carradale. We met Duncan in the Cruban bar and he was a real gentleman, making us feel welcome and taking a genuine interest in us, helping us not to feel too much like strangers. We had a lovely chat with him when he walked by our house on his road to recovery from his hip operation and we were planning to put a bench in front of our house where he could get his breath back before setting off back home.Perhaps we can buy our bench when we return and make it a memorial to Duncan, if his family would be happy to give us consent. Otherwise we offer our heartfelt condolences to them and we will remember him fondly.

Kit and Alex Martin.Sorry to here about Duncan please pass our condolences to Catherine and family.
