18-12-05 Appeal for Help with MS Treatment
Mairi Paterson from Torrisdale has been in touch to ask if we can mention some news she has. Mairi has suffered with Multiple Sclerosis for more than 13 years but is planning on travelling to Rotterdam next year to receive ground-breaking stem cell treatment that promises to vastly improve her condition and quality of life.

Unfortunately this sort of treatment isn't available in the UK and won't be funded by the National Health Service and so Mairi needs to raise £7000 by February in order to pay for it herself.
Stem cell therapy is considered controversial in some circles but I want to stress that the cells that will be used to treat Mairi are taken from the umbilical cords of full-term babies - not foetuses - and not from any form of embryonic research or harvesting.

You can find out more about this type of treatment for MS by following this link to an article on the BBC Scotland website that tells the story of Amanda Bryson, an Inverness woman, who received the same treatment in November. Still more information on MS can be found at the MS Society website.

If you're holding an event over the Christmas period please consider using it to help raise money towards Mairi's treatment.

An account has been setup at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Campbeltown to receive donations which can be made at any bank by quoting sort code 83-16-27 and account number is 00186173.
