Looking back from the end of Carradale pier, around the turn of the 19th Century.
The first pier at Carradale was built in 1858 and was the first to be built of iron in Scotland.
It was also unique in being constructed on two levels - the higher level to service
the steamers and the lower for use by the fishing boats. It remained in use for 100 years
before being replaced by the new (current) pier in 1959. The fishing boat bears the
registration CN51 but this is missing from my lists. Does anyone know what she was called? |
