KINTYRE ANTIQUARIAN AND NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY

PRESS RELEASE

Low and sensibly priced at just £5 a copy

Reasoning that more people than ever either have their own computers, or can get access to somebody else's and very much aware of the fact that the price of many good reference books deters people from buying them, The Kintyre Antiquarian and Natural History Society has taken the innovative and bold step of publishing the text of "KINTYRE AT WAR 1939-1945" on a CD rather than publish it expensively in book form - Pop the disc into a PC computer and open up the Microsoft 'Word' file to scroll the book's pages or, after carefully reading up the introduction at the start of the file, stock up with ink cartridges and paper and print the 440-page long book out for yourself - You can then either keep the pages in a loose-leaf file or get the book bound at your local print shop - You don't even need to print out the whole book, just the pages and sections that interest you !

The book isn't just about the 'goings-on' in Kintyre during The Second World War but indeed covers everything from the time when Hitler came to power, in 1933, right through to 1946 and the Nuremberg war trials - Here then is the story of how war came to Campbeltown and Kintyre and here too are the things they never properly told you at school, how the war began and who had what to fight with when the war did start, Hitler's speech declaring war on America, the complete German and Japanese Surrender Documents and the complete 1946 VE-Day programme listing all the forces and now long-forgotten regiments that took part in the official march-past.

Importantly, especially for those who have struggled with German dictionaries, there is a 60-page long collection of glossaries focusing on German military and naval terms and abbreviations and for that alone the disc will be of great interest students and historians alike - The disc, priced low and sensibly at just £5 a copy, offers excellent value for money and covers ground that often escapes the attention of national historians - Even if you haven't got a computer, the disc is worth buying for its unusual and colourful cover pictures of The Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse.
